The Chinese name for schisandra, 'Wu Wei Zi' means 'Five Flavour Seed' and the fact that it was traditionally seen as containing all flavours indicates its ability to   support all the main organic systems of the body.

Classified into northern (Bei Wu Wei Zi - Schisandra chinensis) and southern (Nan Wu Wei Zi - Schisandra sphenanthera) varieties lignans, particularly schisandrins have been identified as major contributors to its benefits and we only use the more potent northern variety standardised for its schisandrin content.
